Intergenerational diversity in the workplace: perspectives that both diverge and converge?
Description
Service Excellence Workshop
Four generations of workers currently rub shoulders in workplaces across Canada, with each generation adhering to different values and varying attitudes to work. The main goal of this workshop is to draw an accurate picture of each of these cohorts. Who are the seniors, the boomers, the Gen-Xers, the millennials? What are their life values and their work ethics? The second goal of this workshop is to reflect on the challenge of managing these different groups of workers. More specifically, we will seek to reconcile the characteristics of each of these groups and draw the best from each of them. This reflection will delve into questions such as: How do we recruit and retain young workers, as well as experienced workers? How do members of different generations perceive and resolve conflict? How do members of these different cohorts view decision-making? This workshop will take an interactive and dynamic approach, which will include capstone lectures, case studies, interactive exercises and discussions, so that participants come away with a better understanding of intergenerational diversity and how to address the challenges it presents.
