In this course you will learn to identify personal information and develop a sound understanding of key privacy principles. You will explore various scenarios so you can:

  • Determine if you have the authority to collect personal information in your processes and programs

  • Determine the purposes for collecting personal information and prepare information collection, use and disclosure notices

  • Limit the collection, use, disclosure and retention of personal information

  • Keep information accurate and up to date

  • Ensure the security of personal information

  • Understand your role when individuals request their own personal information, challenge the accuracy of information about them or file a privacy complaint

  • Promptly contain and report suspected or confirmed privacy breaches.

As a member of the University staff, you must understand your obligation to protect personal information under the University’s custody and control, in order to comply with Policy 90 — Access to Information and Protection of Privacy and privacy laws applicable to the University.
