Once a prof, always a prof...even after retirement?
Description
Conference - Faculty Retirement
Retirement at 65 is no longer mandatory, and, as a prof, you may want to continue working much longer… Have you already decided when you want to retire and what you’ll do once retired? Have you weighed the pros and cons of retirement as Professor MacLauchlan has done?
The Centre for Academic Leadership invites you to a conference aiming to supplement the workshop offered by Human Resources. During this conference, you, with other faculty, will be invited to take a moment to ponder the different options available for your retirement; for example, staying active in research; giving back to the University, the community and the students; carrying on doing what you enjoy most; exploring a passion other than teaching and research, …
The conference consists of a lunch with keynote speaker (Dr. Suzanne Cook, gerontologist, who conducts research on aging and work), followed by a mentoring café where retired faculty from uOttawa along with some experts (from Human Resources and the consulting firm for the Employee Assistance Program) will share experiences and advice.
We invite you to listen to the January 24th 2017 segment from the CBC’s The Current’s with Dr. Cook and retirees who have redirected to another career.
As Professor MacLaughlan emphasises in this article, it is paramount for anyone thinking about retirement to get informed and participate in the sessions offered by your university!
